Still being a newbie to the city, I often tend to feel very overwhelmed and far removed from nature here. And with Joburg having no ocean to break the claustrophobia it becomes necessary to find somewhere to sever these concrete confines and give oneself the illusion of space, of freedom, of simplicity.
Being the comfortable lone ranger that I am, I decided to mission off this Sunday and finally check out Gilloolys Farm, a large park of sorts that I’ve heard about.
It turned out to be a gem with a dam, ducks, kids on bikes, and families enjoying the space together, and it’s refreshingly close to my house (read 10 min drive, when I don’t get lost). It even had a pub/restaurant (Mrs Sippi Blues) with live music outside by the dam, the perfect setting to sip on a cider or two while sketching and watching people feed the geese.
